Radon Measurement for the Technician –
One Day

Approved for:
- Initial Certification for NRSB Technician
- 8 NRSB & NEHA Category I CE Credits
- 2 Renewal ASHI MRCs

This course is designed to prepare you to meet
the requirements of a radon measurement technician. Several of the
topics will be re-introduced in later sections to more fully explore
their significance to radon measurement. This course presents rudimentary
quality assurance and quality control practices, which should be
sufficient to meet the needs of a technician. It does NOT qualify
testers to analyze their own devices or read and report on continuous
radon monitors.
Residential Radon Measurement - Two Days
Approved for:
- Initial Certification for NRSB Specialist
- Suitable for NEHA-NRPP Entry Level Training
- 16 Category I NRSB & NEHA-NRPP CE Credits
- 2 Renewal ASHI MRCs
- 16 NAHI CEUs
This course prepares you to take an optional National
Radon Safety Board exam fulfilling the Specialist requirements or
National Environmental Health Association-National Radon Proficiency
Program certification exam. The course covers a wide variety of
topics including: Radiation Physics; Health Risks; Radon Sources
and Behavior; Measurement Protocols, Methods, Techniques and Devices;
Radon in Water; QA/QC; Interpretation of Results and Mitigation.
The course will prepare you to perform radon measurements using
your own equipment, analyze the equipment and report results to
clients.
Radon Resistant New Construction – Half
Day
Approved for:
- 4 NRSB & NEHA Category I CE Credits
- 2 Renewal ASHI MRCs
- 4 NAHI CEUs
This 4-hour course covers the installation of
radon systems in new (primarily residential) construction. Working
with EPA texts, details are presented on designing buildings to
reduce negative pressure, preparing the site for a passive system,
sealing radon out, and installing the vent piping. Details on activating
the system with a fan and testing are also included. Finally, resources
and suggestions on marketing radon resistant new construction are
presented.
Quality Assurance for Radon Measurement –
Half Day
Approved for:
- 4 NEHA-NRPP Category I CE Credits
- Some State Programs
This four-hour course introduces the EPA-recommended
elements of a quality assurance/quality control program. It is designed
to help radon measurement professionals begin to write or to improve
their QA/QC documents. The classroom time includes forms, formulas,
computer data entry examples and samples that actually begin the
writing process.
Radon In Water – One Day
Approved for:

This course provides the knowledge and skills
required to test for radon
in water, evaluate its risk and choose a mitigation system for
waterborne radon. The course covers the sources of radon in water,
the
current guidelines, and factors that govern system installation.
It
prepares you for the optional exam. Included in the course are:
the Safe
Drinking Water Act Amendments of 1996; Health Risks; Waterborne
Radon
Sources and Behavior; Measurement Protocols, Methods, Techniques
and
Devices; Choosing the Appropriate System; System Installation.
Inspecting the Radon Mitigation System - Half
Day
Approved for:

- 2 Renewal ASHI MRCs
- 4 NAHI CEUs
- Some State Programs
This course is designed to help the home inspector
or radon professional identify many aspects of a residential radon
system that could impact its proper operation. The course is based
on EPA’s Radon Mitigation Standards with comparisons to ASTMs
E2121, and also refers to ASHI’s checklist. Numerous inspection
challenges are incorporated throughout the course.
Marketing the Radon Message – Half Day
Approved for:

This four-hour class applies current marketing
principles to spreading the radon message. The goal is to increase
business for the radon professional by increasing the market for
services. Since the responsibility for informing the public about
radon, its health threat, and mitigation has fallen so heavily on
radon measurement and mitigation professionals, it pays to understand
how to encourage "sales" of the radon "product".
This class encourages participants to think about the radon message
as a product that competes with the buzz of other sales promotions
and provides tools to grab attention for radon services.
Coffee, Donuts & Radon: Marketing to the Real Estate Agent - Half Day

Most homeowners test for radon only during a real estate transaction, so the real estate agent becomes a critical point of information and attitude formation for sellers and buyers. The agent is a key marketing target for the radon professional. Using marketing principles, this four-hour course gives radon professionals the framework and tools to market radon testing and fixing as beneficial to the agent and client alike. The goal is to increase the demand for radon services and develop a positive attitude toward radon in the real estate community. The course handouts include a ready-made presentation to real estate agents.
